Celebration of The 75th Anniversary of The New Deal The year 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the New Deal. The New Deal programs changed the face of the Mount Hood National Forest. Timberline Lodge was constructed as a WPA project and the campgrounds and trails were constructed by the CCC. Ski The Glade Trail Day - 9am to 4pm This event is organized and operated by the Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum. For one day each year, the historic Glade Ski Trail is opened and groomed. The once popular downhill ski trail starts at Timberline Lodge and ends in Government Camp, a distance of three miles. Participants are treated to a red carpet day of skiing, with shuttles running to Timberline allowing ticket holders to make several trail runs. The events of the day are recounted at the Après, where door prizes are awarded. Participation is limited to the first 100 skiers. Tickets cost $100 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the Museum, or by calling 503-272-3301. |
