Jobs

A job at Timberline is not your ordinary ski resort job.

Timberline is unique in all of the Americas. We are the ONLY year-round ski operation in our hemisphere, with only a two week closure for maintenance in September. Because of this fact, we can offer positions for folks who want to experience Mt. Hood for a season, or for a life-time.

What makes Timberline different from other Ski areas?
Our philosophy of doing business. We believe if you enjoy where you are and what you are doing, the satisfaction you have in your job and the pride you feel for the place you work, will reflect in your relationship with both your fellow Team Members and our guests. At Timberline, our Management Philosophy and training programs reflect our desire to have the best trained and most enthusiastic, courteous staff of any ski area.

Our Mission Statement
“Our mission is to create life-long memories by providing the very best in historic lodging, fine dining, and exciting family-friendly skiing and snowboarding, backed by the highest standard in service and hospitality to every valued guest.”

Our Management Philosophy
“The Management of R.L.K. and Company understands that it is the employees (Team Members), the ones on the front line providing service to our guests, who ARE the foundation of the Company. We also understand that in order to ensure our guests are met with GENUINE hospitality, we must provide our Team with the tools, training, and opportunity to learn, grow and be creative. We have strived to create an organization to do just that. But, it takes all of us to make it work and live each day. YOUR input is invaluable to the future success of R.L.K. and Company.”

Our motto here at Timberline supports these philosophies. We believe you should...

Who is R.L.K. and Company?
R.L.K. and Company was founded in 1955 by Richard Lothair Kohnstamm. Richard Kohnstamm (R.L.) came to Timberline Lodge at a time when the Lodge had been closed and was scheduled for demolition. He was a young man with a vision and a dream to bring Timberline Lodge back to its original splendor, and to create a world-class ski destination resort.

Mt. Hood’s role in the development of the sport of skiing.
R.L. had a lot of help along the way. His staff. People, like him, who shared his love of the mountains, of Timberline Lodge, and the sport of skiing. Through TEAMWORK and dedication, these skiing pioneers helped to develop the sport of skiing in the United States. The original Magic Mile Chairlift was the first tower and cable chair in the world, and with its completion in 1934, the U.S. was launched into a new phenomenon...snow sports.

Mt. Hood was home for the first Ski School in the U.S. as well as the first Ski Patrol in the U.S. Timberline is also the birthplace of summer skiing. With the construction of the Palmer Chairlift in 1975, Mt. Hood became the summer skiing Mecca of the world, hosting Olympic and racing teams from around the globe on the Palmer Snowfield during the months of June through September.

R.L. became known as the “Father of Summer Skiing”, because he saw the future of the industry and knew the value of being able to train on snow 12 months of the year. But, even with this amazing connection to the development of the ski industry in our history, the true heart of Timberline isn’t the awesome skiing and snowboarding. The HEART of Timberline is the Lodge itself.

Timberline Lodge
Timberline Lodge was built during the Great Depression by workers on the roles of the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). The Lodge was actually constructed with funds set aside for Arts and Sciences, making it not only a classic ski lodge, but also a museum, which is home to some of the finest artwork to come out of the Northwest during the 1930’s.

Only artisans were allowed to work on the project and their influence is etched into every nook and cranny of the Lodge. From the solid wood furniture and hand-hewn columns supporting the Headhouse, to the hand molded wrought iron lights and gates to the Cascade Dining Room, the Lodge is the only public building constructed in the 20th century completed by hand. The Builders of Timberline put their heart and soul into this spectacular structure and you can feel their pride as you stroll through her hallways.

The Lodge has 70 guest rooms, each unique in design and furnishings. The style of our guest rooms ranges from the European style Chalet (bunk) rooms to the beautifully appointed Fireplace Rooms, with REAL wood-burning fireplaces. Each room has a theme taken from the local flora which ties together the bedspreads, curtains and rugs. Each room is different in its design and layout and EVERY room in the Lodge offers an incredible view of either Mt. Hood or the Cascade Range.

Our opportunity
Timberline Lodge welcomes more than 2 million visitors a year to her door. Our goal as the staff and stewards of Timberline is to be sure that each of these 2 million visitors leaves Timberline having had a special and memorable experience. We accomplish this task by hiring people who share our values and who are looking for more than “just a job”.

If you are looking for a company you can be proud to be part of…..we’d love to meet you. Give us a call, stop by the Lodge, or print and fax a copy of our application and let’s see if you were meant to be part of Team Timberline!
