Instructor Hiring Information

2018/2019 Winter Season Instructor Hiring Information

We start the hiring process by setting up a personal interview with each applicant. Interviews will be conducted on weekends in early to mid October. The interviews will take place with the Ski & Ride School Management Staff in the Timberline Ski Area Day Lodge. Successful applicants will be invited to attend our Instructor Training Course (ITC) November 10 & 11. The ITC is the final step in the hiring process and we will fill our winter positions at its conclusion.

If you are offered a position with the Timberline Ski & Ride School you will be required to attend New Hire Orientation and New Hire Training, November 17 & 18, December 1 & 2. Your attendance at all training days are mandatory. Training will begin at 8am and continue until 5pm.

We recommend bringing your own lunch and snacks. The ITC/hiring events are designed to introduce you to the basic concepts of teaching snowsports and will give you a greater understanding of the business and professional side of the craft. In addition to instructor-specific information, you will also have the opportunity to develop your own riding or skiing skills. We look forward to your participation.

We will provide:

  • Lift tickets
  • Coaching
  • Indoor presentations

**We recommend you bring your own lunch and snacks.

FAQ

LESSON FAQ

Before you arrive at your lesson, please make sure to fill out the WAIVER FORM.

Where do we meet?

The Discover Program, Next Step Group Sessions, and Private lessons (beginner and intermediate) form at the Ski & Ride School assignment area just above Bruno’s Beginner Chairlift. Look for the Timberline Ski & Ride School signs. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before scheduled class time.

What is the typical class size?

Class sizes are small for more personalized instruction, averaging 8 or less for adult lessons, and 6 or less for kids club lessons.

What equipment is included in the rental package?

The alpine skiing rental package includes skis, poles and boots. The snowboard rental package includes snowboard w/bindings and snowboard boots. Helmets are included in the price of all Kids Club Lessons.

Do I need a helmet?

Timberline Lodge encourages the use of helmets. Please use your best judgment. Helmets can be rented or purchased at Timberline.

How do I determine my level?

Please refer to our Ski or Snowboard Skill level chart. If you are hesitant, hedge on the conservative side, especially if time has passed since the last time you skied or snowboarded. This will give you the opportunity to regain confidence and refresh your skills.

A Private lesson is a fantastic option if you learn best in a one-on-one environment. Private lessons allow you to progress at your own pace.

Can I request a specific instructor?

Yes, but we can only guarantee you a specific instructor if you book a Private lesson.

Will I get the same instructor if I take multiple private lessons?

No, but you may request the same instructor, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What if I am late for my lesson?

We will try to integrate you into the appropriate class, but you may have to reschedule for another time or day.

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations for all lesson types are required at least 72 hours in advance in order to guarantee the availability of an instructor. Discover, Next Step, and Kids Club lessons can be BOOKED ONLINE. Call (503) 272-3341 for Private Sessions or to check availability for other lesson types.

What is the cancellation policy?

Reservations are charged in full on the day the reservation is made. Cancellations and/or alterations require 48 hours prior notice to your lesson time. You may call our reservation line at (503) 272-3341 between 8am and 3pm daily. There is a $50.00 non-refundable cancellation fee. We do not accept cancellations due to weather as this is winter sport. We do ask you to be prepared for winter weather and driving conditions.
