Timberline Snowboard & Ski School

WINTER SPORTS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COLLEGE WEEKENDS

Timberline Snowboard and Ski School will be offering winter sports instructor training this summer. We are always looking for good people to fill instructor positions on our winter staff. This year we would like to get a head start in that process and take advantage of our great summer riding conditions by offering four training weekends at no expense to the participates.

If you have ever been interested in being a ski or snowboard instructor come join us this summer for our instructor training weekends. Even if you are not interested in joining our winter team but would like to find out more about being a ski or snowboard instructor you are welcome to join us for one, or all of the weekend trainings throughout the summer.

Get a jump on the winter season, and take advantage of the great snow conditions that we will have this summer and join us for some fun and training. Who knows, your own skiing and riding skills may improve as you explore the world of winter sports instruction.

If you would like to join us contact Gordon Garlock, Timberline Snowboard and Ski School Training Director, at 503-648-4944, or e-mail at gordongarlock@comcast.net  to register for the event you want to participate in.  Pre-registration is required so we know who will be coming. Lift tickets and instructor training will be free to interested participates. It is our hope that we can grow our winter instructor staff with excited people so take advantage of this unique opportunity and have some fun in the sun this summer with us.

2008-09 Winter Season Instructor Training College

We will be holding our Instructor Training College (ITC) and Hiring Clinic two different times this year. The first session will be November 8th and 9th. The second session will be December 6th and 7th. If we are able to offer you a position It is important that you be able to attend all of the Mandatory training and orientation sessions outline below. It is also important that the training sessions corespond with the session you choose for your ITC.

Schedule:

• Meet at 8am each day in the Bruno’s room in the Wy’East Day Lodge. Please allow enough time to travel to the mountain. Come prepared for both indoor and on-snow sessions.
• If you have current certification with PSIA or AASI (or the equivalent) in any division please contact us for an interview. Interviews will take place on the first day of each ITC. After the interview and a riding evaluation It may not be necessary for you to attend our intire hiring event - you will have to attend all four new-hire training dates.

The ITC/Hiring event is designed to introduce you to the basic concepts of teaching snowsports and will give you a greater understanding of the business and professional side of the craft. In addition to information specific to being an instructor, you will also have the opportunity to develop your own riding or skiing skills. We look forward to your participation.

The four day ITC program will include overviews of:

• PSIA/AASI (Professional Ski Instructors of America/ American Association of Snowboard Instructors)
• Core Concepts including the Teaching Model & Guest Service Model
• Skills Concept and the Common Movements
• Children’s CAP Model
• Personal skiing/snowboarding skill development

We will provide:

• Lift tickets
• Coaching
• Indoor presentations

**We recommend you bring your own lunch.

If you are interested in a position with the Ski & Snowboard school please consider the following:

• We have both part-time and full-time positions available.
• We require a minimum commitment of 18 days spread out among our busiest days of the season. The 18 day commitment includes either Saturdays or Sundays in January, February & early March and a variety of holidays. You must be available for some days over the December Holidays between December 25th and January 1st.
• New instructors must also be available for extensive training in November and December.
• Our Bruno’s Kids Club for children ages 4-12 years of age is our largest and fastest growing program. If offered a teaching position we will be scheduling you to teach in our children’s program most days of your commitment.

To sign-up for the ITC/ Hiring Clinic please complete the downloadable registration form below, and a Timberline employment application, and return it to us as soon as possible before the session you choose to participate in. If you have any questions please feel free to call Gordon Garlock, Technical Director of the Timberline Snowboard and Ski School at 503-648-4944 or email gordongarlock@comcast.net. Please put ITC or Hiring Clinic in the subject line.

Thank you again for your interest in Timberline and our school. We look forward to meeting you in November. Think snow and remember “we call it school but it’s really more like recess”.

Best regards,
Gordon Garlock – Technical Director Timberline Snowboard & Ski School
