The 2009 USSA Golden Rose Ski Race – May 23-24

Timberline kicks off every summer season with the USSA Golden Rose Ski Race and this year is no exception. In fact, this year will mark the 73rd consecutive running of the race that coincided with the opening of historic Timberline Lodge. The Golden Rose is the longest continually run ski race in North America. The United States Ski Association along with The Mt. Hood Academy and the operators of Timberline organize this traditional race event at the start of each summer. Elite ski racers from throughout the West, compete over the two day event. Both men and women compete in all age groups. Many past and future Olympic champions have participated in the race over the years, including 1984 Olympic gold medalist and World Cup Champion Phil Mahre, who returned to the event two years ago in his efforts to mount a comeback to competitive ski racing. Timberline is expecting between 150 and 200 competitors this year.
