Timberline Lodge and the Boyd Coffee Company have once again teamed up to offer “Free Music To The People” in Timberline’s outdoor amphitheater. The concerts will take place on all Wednesday afternoons in August, with the final show on Wednesday September 2nd. Shows will start at 3:00 pm. The price of admission is FREE. Barbecue, specialty coffee drinks, pop, and micro brews from the Mt. Hood Brewing Company will be available to concert-goers. (no picnic lunches please) Come one and all! The outdoor venue is accessible and family-friendly. This year’s line exciting line-up is as follows.
August 5th – Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum – Since forming a musical partnership in 1986 when Tom first joined Laurie’s band, this acoustic duo has recorded 12 albums and has been nominated for a Grammy Award. They are widely regarded as leaders of the modern bluegrass sound. Guitar and mandolin player Tom Rozum also has a wonderful tenor voice. Laurie, a fine guitar player and a terrific fiddle player, is an award winning songwriter, and was twice named Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. A show you won’t forget!
August 12th – Bryan Bowers – For over 3 decades, Bryan has been to the auto harp what Earl Scruggs was to the 5 string banjo. He’s not just an instrumental virtuoso though. Bryan is a big, friendly guy who embraces his audiences with great charm and wit, and delivers very moving and entertaining performances. Bryan has recorded with Emmy Lou Harris, Jerry Garcia, and Willie Nelson, just to name a few. A past favorite, we are so happy to welcome Bryan back to Timberline!
August 19th – The Freak Mountain Ramblers – “The Freaks” are a Northwest favorite. Made up of ace musicians Jim Boyer, Turtle Vandemarr, Dave Reisch, Lex Browning, and Roger North, this fantastic collaboration results in both bedlam and beauty, and produces a jam band sound that fuses country, rock, swing, jug band and bluegrass music. Be prepared to party!
August 26th – The Great Northern Planes – This 4 piece bluegrass band is another crowd-pleaser with a loyal following from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Like “The Freaks” they feature fun, frolic, and excellent musicianship, but lean towards a more traditional bluegrass sound. They were formed out of the ashes of former Portland band “Pumpkin Ridge” and claim that they had to change their name when too many people called on the weekends asking for a tee time. Bluegrass at its best!
September 2nd- The Larry Wilder Americana Quartet – Band leader Larry Wilder is a top notch entertainer who puts on a polished show. His quartet features great vocalists and dazzling instrumentalists who will perform an interesting blend of true American songs; including old time ballads, bluegrass, and popular folk tunes. In addition to the shear enjoyment of hearing these classic songs, this popular show provides a history of the musical roots of America. Larry was also named the 2008 National Yodeling Champion by the Western Music Association.
