Celebration of The 75th Anniversary of The New Deal The year 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the New Deal. The New Deal programs changed the face of the Mount Hood National Forest. Timberline Lodge was constructed as a WPA project and the campgrounds and trails were constructed by the CCC. 2008 Timberline Mountain Music Series
This family-friendly concert series will continue to feature folk, blues, country, and Americana music. It will be held, weather permitting, on each Thursday afternoon in August. Concerts start at 2:30 p.m. The scheduled line up features such performers as acoustic blues guitarist, Mary Flower, the Americana music sounds of the Larry Wilder Trio, and a special tribute to Mt. Hood and Timberline Lodge in songs and poems by local artists Julie McCarl, Will Frank, Paul Keller, and Jon Tullis. The Timberline Mountain Music Series is underwritten by a generous sponsorship grant from the Boyd Coffee Company. Admission will again be free. No picnic lunches please -- food and drinks will be available for sale. The historic amphitheater is also a memorable place for a wedding or special event. Friends of the Forest Day On Sunday, August 10th, the National Forest Foundation invites Friends of the Forest volunteers to help refinish the benches in the amphitheater, and repair hiking trails that surround the back of the Lodge and link to the 40-mile Timberline Trail, which encircles the mountain. This event will be cosponsored by Timberline Lodge and Columbia Sportswear. Lunch will be provided, and a guest speaker will describe the remarkable history of Timberline Lodge. All ages are welcome, although this event is recommended for adults and families with children over the age of 7.
